MySpace Has Ruined the Magic of Reunions

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Boy, was I wronger than the wrongest wrong person in the entire world. In a nutshell, it was a blast. I was able to see folks I haven’t seen in 10 years (i’ll save the “feeling old” discussion for later…like when i really feel old). It was nice catching up and seeing how the years have treated them. The only thing that sucks is I think I was a little TOO drunk by the end of the night. Some people showed up after the reunion was “officially” over and unfortunately, that’s when it started to get blurry for me. Don’t get me wrong, it was great to be hammered. I just wish I had a clearer memory of what I talked to people about.

Also, I’ll include some thoughts on:

Casino Royale
Daniel Craig is a stud. I love the reinvention of the James Bond character. The film broke the conventions of the typical Bond movie and it was downright refreshing. I’m sure purists will hate, but I think it’s good for the franchise. Thank God the gimmicky gadgets are gone – it seemed like the last few bonds were all product placement campaigns. By the way, the last episode of Studio 60 – the one about product sponsorship – was awesome.

I also liked the stylistic decisions in the new Bond flick. B&W montage-y sequence in the beginning was a nice touch. And the washed out, overblown sequence in the bathroom was dope as well. Haven’t seen anything like that in any recent Bond film, that’s for sure.

I could’ve done without all the Texas Hold ‘Em explanation, though. I mean, c’mon…shouldn’t everyone know how to play that game by now?

The Fountain
Ok, so I’m an Aronofsky fan, but this one was kinda out there, dude. It was shot beautifully by the Pride of the Philippines, cinematographer Matthew Libatique. Ok, so I guess he’d be tied w/ Manny Pacquiao for the title of “Pride of the Philippines”. I loved the visual motifs in the film and I liked the theme. The acting was good…but man, I guess I know what they mean when they say pretentious psychobabble. Whatever, he made the film he wanted to make. More power to him.

Scrubs
In honor of its season premiere this Thursday, I threw in the Season 2 DVD over the weekend. Quirky characters, dynamic relationships, 80s pop-culture references, and hot Jordan. I would LOVE to be part of that writing team. *sigh*
